Welsh Border Ride April Update
Only two weeks to go now before the big weekend. Hopefully you all will have booked your train tickets (except Janice, Huw and Jess who I believe are travelling with me). Apart from bikes you’ll need to bring a bag with spare clothing (bike and casual), whatever food (gels, drink bottles, sandwiches, choc etc) you want access to from the support van during each day and a bit of cash if you want to buy anything along the way.
I’ll get keys for 3 chalets at Pontins at approx 4pm on Friday which I’ll leave with those who are travelling with me so get their mobile no’s to arrange a hook up when you arrive. Each chalet will have 2 single beds in each bedroom and a double sofa bed. I therefore suggest room allocation as follows but you’re free to mix it up as you wish.
Chalet 1
Mark Tambini, Rob Hoskins,, Nigel, Huw,, Ali and me
Chalet 2
Jess, Rhian,, Miles, Paul,, Dave and Elaine
Chalet 3
James, Andy,, Ollie, Dan,, Janice
Regarding bikes everyone can trust the train to take your bike but I’d be happier retaining control and taking everyone’s bike up myself. It’ll mean collecting bikes during the week before then two trips up on Friday (which I’ll need to do anyway to collect Allison on Friday evening) but I should be done by midnight so not too much of a pain (or cost) considering the peace of mind it will bring. I’ll ask everyone over the next two weeks what they want to do and arrange a pick up drop off time that suits.
Finally I’ll be collecting the final payments over the next week or so so here is a list of who owes what.
Huw Evans £26 + £15 (saving on not buying cheap train ticket to assist in keeping van costs down) = £41
Andy Deans £28
Rob Hoskins £28
James Nunn £58
Paul Davies £12 (doesn’t include hostel accom as staying elsewhere)
Adam Wardle £39 (£32 hostel cost + £7 van support cost)
Jess Parry Williams £15 (if not bought train ticket and coming up in van)
Elaine Ferguson £4
Janice Coyle £13 (rest of £15 to cover van cost)
If I can collect all of the above I will have received £940. Costs so far are £544 to YHA and £308 to Pontins. This leaves a total contribution of £88 to cover the fuel, wear and tear and Alli’s costs in the money so far asked. I’ll keep a check on fuel costs over the weekend and expect it to be roughly £150 with the two trips on Friday so I might ask for another £5 each but I’ll see how it goes after the event. Hope this is reasonable considering the convenience of not having to carry anything and the reassurance of having a vehicle close by in the event of rough weather or a mechanical issue.
I think that’s it for now. I’ll be swimming on every Tues, Thurs and Sunday except Sun 15 and Tues 24 if you’ve got any questions or want to use one of those days to give me your bike.

Just a reminder to all about making sure your bike is in good condition. I have been lucky enough to test some of Andy's route on the Northern end - it's fab, but it is remote and some very steep descents so make sure life in brake blocks/tyres etc. If in doubt - get them changed - I have!!
Poor Janice though, having to share a chalet with a load of smelly boys!
