Cardiff Triathletes

Cardiff Triathletes was formed in 1984 by a small group of people interested in the, then, new sport of triathlon.

The objectives of the club are to encourage and promote the sport of triathlon in the Cardiff and the surrounding area.

The club is affiliated to the British Triathlon Federation via Welsh Triathlon and individual members are encouraged to join these organisations.

Marshalling and Club Membership

on .

As discussed at the Club’s AGM last month, it is now a condition of continued membership that everyone marshals at least one Club organised event, each Calendar year. Please see below for details.

The Club has traditionally organised two / three triathlons each year, which are open to the public. All our races are authorised and insured through British Triathlon who insist, as part of the process, that a formal risk assessment is undertaken and followed. Part of this risk assessment means that a minimum number of marshals are required to ensure a well organised and safe race.

The majority of member’s volunteer to marshal at these races, but a significant minority do not. Therefore a resolution was passed at the Club’s 2012 AGM that it would be a condition of membership, that everyone must marshal at least one Club organised race each calendar year. The Committee met recently to discuss the details of what this will mean.

Starting from 2012 (now) we will ask each of the Race Directors to keep a record of who marshal’s at each of the events. Those individuals who do not marshal an event this summer will no longer be entitled to the following

Subsidised kit

Any free leisure wear that the Club purchases

Subsidized training courses (such as the Ben Bright weekend)

Subsidized races such at the National Relays

The membership form has been amended, so that when new members apply to join, they must sign a declaration stating their intention to marshal at future Club events. The assumption is that each new member will marshal when given the opportunity and so they will have the same entitlements, as existing members who marshal.

Individuals who continually fail to marshal will ultimately be asked to leave. If you would like to discuss this in more detail please feel free to approach one of the Committee.

Cardiff Triathletes is run through a team of volunteers. May I take this opportunity to thank everyone who does support the running of the Club, without your help there would be no Club.
