"The perfect beginner's triathlon"

At Portishead Open Air Pool, The Esplanade, Portishead, Somerset, BS20 7HD.

SUNDAY 1st JULY 2012 - start time 8.30am

ENTER ONLINE AT ENTRYCENTRAL

SWIM: 264m - 8 lengths of Portishead's heated, open-air pool. A stunning sea-front location for that "open water" feel without having to tackle cold water, or the need for a wetsuit.

BIKE: 17k - A varied route on minor roads between Portishead Esplanade and Clevedon. Any kind of bike can be used (so long as it's roadworthy). Great sea views, and plenty of marshals.

RUN: 3k - A flat, easy, two-lap circuit of Portishead's Lake Grounds.

MADE FOR BEGINNERS. Our Try-a-Tri event is tailor-made for beginners, especially first-timers at the sport of triathlon. With manageable distances and the combination of a pool swim and a flat run course, the Self-Transcendence Somerset Try-a-Tri is a great way to get a taste of the UK's fastest growing endurance sport. Youth entrants aged 15+ are welcome, but the course is not suitable for under 15s (who are not permitted to compete on public roads).

ROOM TO BREATHE! We are limiting entry to 100 athletes, to keep the transition area and the course itself from becoming crowded. The pool will be divided into just four lanes so there will be plenty of room in the pool too, with a maximum of five swimmers per lane at any one time.

FINISHER'S TROPHY & TEE. Every finisher will receive an event tee-shirt and be presented with a finisher's trophy as soon as they complete the event. All this is included in the entry fee, and photographs will be provided (mid-course shots as well as finish photos) free of charge.

SUPPORTERS WELCOME. Supporters will be able to watch the swim from poolside seating, and the Esplanade itself provides a great view of the start/finish of both the bike and run courses. Admission to the poolside area is free (from 7.30am to 9.30am) for supporters and spectators accompanying athletes on the day. There is ample parking on Esplanade Road and a choice of cafes within 500m of the start.

ADVICE & GUIDANCE. Monthly emails of beginner's tips and advice from the race organisers will make sure you are well prepared on the day. If there's anything you need to know to help you train or prepare for the event, we'll be there to provide the answers.

Entry will be available online from mid-January at ENTRY CENTRAL.

Sunday Night Swim Sessions

Tuesday, 24 January 2012
The Sunday swim session at the Cardiff Bay pool will commence at 18.00 for the next three weeks (29 Jan, 5 Feb, 12 Feb). The reason for this is that there is an event on the first Sunday and Wales are playing rugby on the next two Sunday afternoons.
